Membership

Aurora Sportsmen's Club (ASC) is a private, members-only recreational and social club that is actively recruiting new members to join, get involved and help ASC grow to reach its potential in Waterman, IL.

Member candidates must be at least 18 years of age, legal residents of the United States of America, and, if a resident of Illinois, must have a valid Firearms Owner Identification (FOID) card.

The membership process is designed to allow new members to enjoy the club facilities immediately upon completion of the process.

The Club currently is increasing its voting membership  from 2,750 to 3,200. Generally, there is membership turnover of about 10% per year, which provides opportunities for prospective members to join.

How Do I Become A Member?

1. The new member application process begins with submitting a completed Application Form (link is in the right-hand column of this page) along with a non-refundable $25 application fee. (The application fee is deducted from the initiation fee for prospective members who are accepted for membership.) Sponsored applicants will have priority over those without a sponsor (see below).

2. After submitting the new member application, the prospective applicant will participate in an online tour and orientation presentation and a telephone interview, including a test of Club rules and policies.

3. Upon successfully completing these prerequisite steps, the applicant will then be invited to participate in a Range Orientation and Safety Check where the applicant must demonstrate safe handling and use of a firearm.  Non-registered (walk-in) applicants are not allowed. The timing of invitations is largely dependent on the size of the existing applicant pool (including any wait list) and whether the applicant is sponsored vs. not-sponsored (see below).

The Range Orientation and Safety Checks are currently scheduled in March, April, July and October of each year.

The next scheduled Range Orientation and Safety Check session will be in
July of 2025.

Applicants must bring their valid drivers license or state ID, their valid FOID card (if an Illinois resident), hearing & eye protection, a firearm in good working order that they are comfortable shooting and at least 10 rounds of ammunition. If using a semi-automatic handgun, please bring 2 magazines.

4. Following the successful completion of the Range Orientation and Safety Check, the payment of the balance of the initiation fee and pro-rated dues for the remainder of the calendar year, the prospective member shall be admitted to the Club, given a New Member Packet (including three (3) guest passes), and issued their membership credentials, enabling him or her to immediately enjoy the benefits of ASC membership.

Membership Benefits

Regular Memberships include the primary member, spouse/partner, and children under the age of 18. Members enjoy access to the facilities 365 days/year; the ability to participate in organized events; recreational and social activities, the ability to bring guests at a time (within the limits of Club policies); and members-only Club communications.

Membership Costs - 2025

For a Regular Family Membership: The initiation fee is $320.00 (reduced by the required application fee paid). In addition to the initiation fee, annual dues for membership are $280.00, prorated to the month that a member is admitted.  For example, if joining in July, the new member would be responsible for 6 months of dues (6/12 x $280 = $140).

Payment can be made by cash, check or MC, Visa, or Discover.

The Membership of the Club voted at the October 2024, General Membership Meeting to assess all members who were eligible to vote at that meeting a $15/month project assessment payable during 2025. The Assessment is being used for the continuing development of the Club. New members in 2025 are not responsible for paying assessments during 2025.

The Membership of the Club will again have the opportunity to vote on the amount of any 2026 special assessments at the October 2025 General Membership Meeting.  Members joining before the October 2025 meeting will be responsible for payment of any 2026 approved assessments.

Sponsored Applicants

Sponsored applicants have priority over non-sponsored applicants in receiving invitations to the Range Orientation and Safety Check, without regard to when the non-sponsored applicant applied. A sponsor is an ASC member in good standing who has been a member of the Club for at least one year.  Sponsors will be contacted to verify that they are willing to accept the responsibilities associated with sponsoring a new member.
